In Revelations, Ezio became less favorable in my eyes and Altair was the better character. Throughout the other three games though, probably Ezio just because they gave him more of a backstory. I like Altair the best personally. I mean Ezio is awesome in his own right but, Altair did it all first pretty much.
Two capes that do the same thing didn't make sense. I think it's function in Brotherhood does have a reasoning behind it I did like it's function in ACII, but I also love how I can wear in my opinion the nicest cape when doing small missions and finding collectables without having the whole of Rome on my back.
