In the refrigerator, buttercream iced cupcakes should keep days. Does buttercream frosting need to be refrigerated? If you want to make the frosting ahead of time, store it in the fridge, in an airtight container, for up to days.
Unfrosted cupcakes will stay fresh for two days without refrigeration. However, if you plan to cover the cupcakes with frosting that requires refrigeration, you should wait to frost them until you are ready to serve them—within two days. To frost the cupcake, scoop out the frosting using the cookie dough scooper and drop the frosting on the top of the cupcake.
Then spin your spoon or spatula in a circle, pushing the frosting out to the edges as your spin the cupcake. That's it! How much does one can of frosting cover? Then take the wrappings off and set them in your shallow plastic containers and go from there. I usually if layered put the frosting or filling in the center and put the layers together and then a light layer of frosting and let dry and then freeze them and then take them out an frost frozen and decorate later. I have never done cupcakes but my son has asked me to make their small wedding cake and cupcakes. This information comes at a time when I was questioning if I could freeze filled cupcakes and seem to work great.

A lot of times it has to do with the amount of moisture in combination with the types of liners. For me it seems like some cupcake liners are more prone to doing that and if the cupcakes get any kind of condensation on them like coming in and out of the fridge , it seems to cause it as well.

Is there a reason you put it over the lid? Sometimes I end up doing things the hard way. Yes, that should be fine. It may not work as well as the plastic container, unless you have a lid for it.
I will get busy and I should be finished by the end of late night tv and be able to relax tomorow and even sleep in if I want and enjoy a nice friday to myself.. I have a friend whos family owns a big commercial bakery old school bakery with everything buttercream and lots of drapes and ruffles.
